Whilst at some clubs there are competitions on nearly all Saturdays and many Sundays, the balance struck at Royal Lytham is one that allows the players the cut and thrust of playing against the course in competitive golf on some Saturdays but also provides opportunity for the direct conflict of match play on others. This balance has much to commend it.
