A Dramatic Finish…
Shiho Kuwaki etched her name into the history of Royal Lytham & St Annes with a dramatic victory in the 50th Women’s Open.
The Japanese star finished the Championship on five-under-par, only for Germany’s Esther Henseleit to hole a remarkable birdie putt on the 18th to force a play-off. Kuwaki held her nerve through two extra holes, securing her maiden major title with a par on the second play-off hole.
At just 23 years old, Kuwaki became the fourth Japanese player to win the AIG Women’s Open and the latest name to join Royal Lytham’s illustrious roll of honour.
